About AzDS

Who we are...

Since 1989, Arizona Disabled Sports (AzDS), also known as Mesa Association of Sports for the Disabled, has been dedicated to providing year round sports and recreation opportunities for individuals with all types of disability. AzDS has been a leader in providing quality special events and sports competitions on the local, national and international level.

AzDS provides ten adaptive sports and recreation programs for individuals with physical disabilities including but not limited to amputee, cerebral palsy, spina bifida and spinal cord injury. The organization serves as Team Mesa  and provides sports, recreation and social programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities including but not limited to autism, down syndrome, and developmental disabilities.

Twenty years of experience has shown that participation in adaptive sports and recreation programs results in increased quality of life, self-esteem, mood and coping skills, respect for themselves and others. Twenty-one million American's have a physical or visual disability and only 10% of those individuals are participating in daily activity. Arizona Disabled Sports teaches individuals with disabilities to focus on the possibilities rather than the limitations and encourages each individual to get off of the sidelines.

Mission Statement:
Recognizing the importance of recreational, leisure and competitive opportunities that contribute to the quality of life, the primary mission of Arizona Disabled Sports is to provide a variety of programs and activities to individuals with disabilities.  Toward this end, the Association will work to educate, inform and include the community in a comprehensive effort to provide year round activities.  Through participation, the athlete will realize individual accomplishment, self-esteem, respect for themselves and others.

Vision Statement:
Our vision is a community that creates opportunity and empowers individuals with disabilities through sports and recreation.
